CO2 Lasers Mark Photovoltaic Solar Panels

MUKILTEO, Washington, April 24, 2008 – Solar panels are comprised of multiple photovoltaic (PV), or solar cells that convert energy from the sun directly into electricity for use in homes and commercial buildings. The manufacture of these panels has grown dramatically in recent years, thanks to an increasing demand for alternative energy sources.

Synrad CO2 lasers offer an ideal solution for marking the serial numbers, performance ratings, and other customer-specific information that are often required of each individual solar cell. Unlike labels or ink that can peel or scratch off, the laser creates a permanent mark that will withstand weathering. Additionally, lasers offer a more environmentally-friendly means of marking, without the use of labels, chemicals, inks, and other consumables and pollutants.

Software controlled laser marking allows for fast, easy and even automated data change for every part that requires marking. Usually, a low-power 10 or 25W laser is all that is needed to mark silicon, glass, ceramic, or composite panels. Synrad offers two easy-to-integrate marking solutions - the 25W Fenix Laser Marker , which simply connects to a standard PC, or the FH Flyer marking head. This component-level, galvo-based head may be aligned to any Synrad laser from 10 to 125W.
