Synthetic fabric, cut
with 25 watts of laser power at 200" per minute.
A feature of laser cutting of synthetic woven or fibrous materials is the sealed or smooth edge finish that results from the processing. These edges would usually be roughened or frayed when cut by mechanical means. In the instance to the left, a smooth cut resulted from the sealing of each individual strand of this 0.04"-thick rigid material.

Airbag material, cut with 200 watts of laser power at 1250" per minute.
A classic example of edge sealing is airbag material that can be cut in single, or more commonly, in multiple layers.
