To fabricate a medical device, this application required that a thin nylon balloon be welded to a plastic tube. This was accomplished by using a heavily defocused beam, and rotating the balloon and tube. The action of the beam caused the balloon end to constrict onto the tube, producing a mechanically strong weld.
