White sapphire marked using a low power Synrad CO2 lasers.
The picture on the left shows a sapphire disk that was marked using a 25W laser, FH marking head, 80mm lens, and the WinMark Pro spot tool.  These results were achieved in 0.75 seconds, with a resolution of 290 dpi.  

With the WinMark Pro spot tool, a series of dots are used to create the mark.  This results in the reduction of heat absorbed by the delicate materials, which in turn, decreases the amount of fracturing.
