Side view of PCB scribed using low power Synrad CO2 Lasers.
The 0.05 Printed Circuit Board (PCB) shown on the left was cut at 140 inches per minute with a Synrad 50W laser. To achieve these results, a 2.5 focusing lens (having a 100- micron spot size) and 20-PSI air assist was required.
Boards from this supplier are pre-scribed as part of the manufacturing process. Cutting through these scribed pathways helps to minimize charring of the PCB material by channeling debris away form the cut zone.
Testing also demonstrated that a cutting speed of 70 inches per minute was feasible using only 25W of laser power.
