 Cutting Mild Steel

Process Date: June 2002

We created the moose silhouette using an average of 138W of power and 40psi oxygen assist, at a cutting speed of 30 inches per minute.  For better edge quality we chose mild steel over stainless steel.

Due to a smaller kerf and focused spot size, lasers produce greater detailed cuts than routers.   Being a non contact process, using lasers eliminates the added cost of bit replacements. The laser cutting process also provides much better edge quality then plasma cutters or oxygen-acetylene torches.

Lawn art created using a 240W Synrad CO2 laser! (2mm thick mild steel)
