Although aluminum is highly reflective to the CO2 wavelength, we recently discovered that we are able to cut through coated or anodized aluminum with a maximum thickness of 0.015!
The 0.015 thick anodized aluminum shown in the photo was cut using a Synrad 240W laser and 40psi oxygen assist gas, at a speed of 1.5 inches per second with minimal underside burring. The same results can be achieved using air assist at a speed of 0.6 inches per second.
Laser cutting is possible when aluminum is coated or anodized.
