 Marking
Painted Aluminum

Process Date: October 2002

It is well known that CO2 lasers can produce bold marks on anodized aluminum, however CO2 lasers are also capable of ablating painted layers from aluminum to mark logos, part numbers, and a variety of codes.  The 0.75” x 2” logo was marked on the painted aluminum shown in the photo using a Synrad 25W laser at a speed of 95 inches per second giving a cycle time of 10 seconds. The dog icon was imported as a line drawing from an off the shelf image collection using WinMark Pro software.  Various parts of the image were filled or left unfilled by selecting a “yes” or “no” option from the drawing format menu. A text font was selected from the computer font folder and the text filled option was selected “yes”, the text was then skewed to give the desired look.
